St Carthage's Swimming Time Trials
The St Carthage's Swimming Time Trials were held in Alstonville on Tuesday 22nd of November. Although entries were down on previous years, the competition was very close. Times from each event are used to form the St Carthage's Swimming Squad that will participate in the Richmond Zone Swimming Carnival on Monday 13th February. A list of students and the events that they qualified for can be accessed at the bottom of the article. Congratulations to all students who participated and we wish those attending the Richmond Zone Swimming Carnival next year the best of luck.
With the Lismore Memorial Baths still closed due to the flood we thank the Alstonville Aquatic Centre for accommodating us this year. Your hospitality and generosity was very much appreciated.

Sporting Schools
This term St Carthage's was fortunate to secure a Sporting Schools grant. These grants provide us with the opportunity to bring in external sporting organisation to facilitate a program for our students. This term Kindergarten participated in rugby league, Year 1 was AFL and Year 2 was Tennis. The students and teachers thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The enthusiasm and passion that the coaches display for their sport transfers to the students, ensuring a fun and exciting experience.
Basketball Gala Day
Our Year 6 students had a ball at the Basketball Gala Day last Wednesday. Schools from around Lismore came together at the Lismore Basketball Stadium for a day of friendly competition. St Carthage's entered a boys and a girls team in the competition.
Our girls team won all three games in their pool and progressed to the final against Lismore Public School. They were down 10-2 at half-time. I was extremely proud of the way that the girls played throughout they day. The second half was nail biting. Scores were locked at 12-12 with 2 minutes to go. St Carthage's scored two critical baskets and won 16-14. They showed outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork and determination.
The boys team played 2 games in their pool. The first game they tied with Wyrallah Road Public School and won their second against Lismore Public. This allowed them to progress to the semi final against Summerland Christian College. This was another extremely tight contest. The score finished 22-21, with SCC progressing to the final.
A big thank you to Lismore Storm for providing this opportunity for our students! The referees, coordinators and canteen staff made it a pleasure to be involved in the competition.
